SCANDAL in the metals market: Ea-Nasir cheats his customers again

Ur's copper magnate, Ea-Nasir, faces an unprecedented reputational crisis after a complaint tablet from the merchant Nanni was leaked. The reason? Substandard ingots and a disastrous customer service.
SCANDAL in the metals market: Ea-Nasir cheats his customers again
Bal-Uruk — Pultsar News

1750 BC (Old Babylonian Period, Dynasty of Hammurabi)

Ur, Mesopotamia. — The B2B (Babylon to Babylon) metallurgy sector is trembling. What looked like a routine transaction in the copper supply chain coming from Telmun has become the biggest corporate scandal of the year. A sheet of complaints (engraved on high-density clay) addressed to the infamous copper CEO, Ea-Nasir, has been leaked, and his company's shares are plummeting in the Persian Gulf markets.

The plaintiff is Nanni, a respected investor and merchant who has decided to go public with his frustration after experiencing what experts are already calling "the worst user experience (CX) of the Bronze Age".

"Take it or leave it": The disastrous returns policy

According to the documents accessed by Ziggurat Press, the conflict began when Nanni sent his trusted messenger, Sit-Sin, to collect a premium order of copper ingots. Upon arriving at the warehouse, however, Ea-Nasir presented him with a batch of inferior quality.

The magnate's response to the messenger's complaints was worthy of a monopoly villain: "If you want to take them, take them; if you do not want to take them, go away!".

In his complaint tablet, Nanni does not mince words and lays bare the breach of trust: "Who am I that you treat someone like me with such contempt?! I have sent as messengers gentlemen like ourselves to collect the bag with my money, and you have treated me with contempt by sending them back empty-handed several times, and through enemy territory!".

"Who do you take me for!" - Exclusive image of the moment the now-historic complaint tablet against Ea-Nasir was drafted.

A track record of bad practices

Analysts in the Telmun market claim this is not the first time Ea-Nasir has gambled with his partners' capital. Nanni alleges that he had already advanced more than 1,080 pounds of copper to the palace administration on Ea-Nasir's behalf, a seed-capital investment he now demands to recover in full.

"From now on I will not accept from you any copper that is not of the finest quality", Nanni declares in the legal document, establishing a new quality-control protocol. "I will select and take the ingots individually in my own yard, and I shall exercise my right of refusal".

Are we witnessing the end of Ea-Nasir's monopoly? The commercial authorities of Ur have yet to comment, but this public-relations crisis proves that, in the new globalized economy, treating your investors badly and shipping low-grade copper leaves an indelible mark... literally, baked into clay for eternity.
